Bieber Snub at the 2022 Grammys: Justin and Hailey's Red Carpet Outfits, Biases, and The Recording Academy Favorites Such as Taylor Swift

It’s that time of the year when everyone pretends not to care about the Grammys, but they actually do. When it comes to Justin Bieber, the Grammys are an interesting topic. Does he hate them? Love them? Did he ever win? Why did they beg him to come this year?

Their Outfits

Let’s talk about OG ESMG topics, Justin and Hailey Bieber making their couple debut at the Grammys:

Their outfits had a mixed reaction from the audience. Most people loved it, others said they look homeless… you know, stan twitter calling high fashion looks homeless.

I actually liked it and I don’t like it because it’s something I would personally choose to wear, but this is one of the biggest nights in music and you don’t often show up wearing something traditionally pretty as you’d wear at prom.

Justin has a campaign with Balenciaga so of course he came decked out in Balenciaga.

They’re known for their signature oversized clothing, but what stuck out were the hideous platform Clogs… interesting.

Hailey sported a rather minimalist look, wearing a white silk strapless Saint Laurent gown.

I really liked this look on her, it’s very chic and elegant. Even though both her and Justin do not match in any way shape or form, I can see this look being iconic to the point where people will dress up as them for Halloween.

Moving forward, Hailey has to chill with the same old expected looks on the red carpet. Her makeup is always the same, so is the hair, it’s on the verge of becoming repetitive,

As for the Bieber snub…

Justin was nominated for EIGHT awards and went home with… none.

That was surprising for many people especially critics since he had a huge comeback with Justice and he’s been dominating the charts since. His collab with The Kid Laori, Stay, has been harassing the Billboard #1 and #2 spots for a year now.

Ghost made its debut in the top 5 after a year of release.

Peaches was #1 and broke several records.

It was a big year and the executive producer of the Grammy’s said that they were begging him to come for years and they were happy that he finally agreed to come and perform.

Apparently, he also rearranged some tour dates to be able to make it.

It gave everyone the impression that he was going to win a big award since all these measures were taken into effect… so how did he lose to relative newcomers such as Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo?

Begging for him, but snubbing him?

It wasn’t a fan-voted thing, the Recording Academy chooses who they want to win. Sometimes the Grammys are extra critical when it comes to certain stars due to their public image, career in general, and so on.

The Academy is more biased toward some artists than others. For example, Katy Perry was a huge force in pop music at one point and yet… she never got any Grammys.

Just like the slow build up of season 2 of Bridgerton, the Acadamy likes to torture everyone until they rightfully give someone of huge longevity, their award.

It’s like “how hard are you gonna work for it?”

This was famously seen with the Oscars and Leonardo DiCaprio. After starring in huge roles and extremely successful movies, year after year he would still lose at the Oscars and he’d just be painfully smiling in his seat as he witholds tears.

Academy based awards like this soft burn romance.

Katy was supposed to eventually win a Grammy, but she kind of fell off and never had a huge comeback.

Justin should have won Best New Artist in 2010 when he was nominated considering no one saw a fan craze like that since the likes of Michael Jackson and The Beatles, but it was one of those things of “are you a one-year type wonder? We’ll give you ten years to let us know.”

Then his public image greatly affected his chances of being nominated. This is also something seen with Miley Cyrus who continuously gets snubbed.

The Academy is more biased toward certain artists and public image has a huge role in that. This is also why Selena Gomez made a Spanish album, which I’ll talk about in a different post.

Taylor Swift is extremely friendly with those who have a say in these types of things and for years she has worked overtime to ensure a solid connection with these people so she can win… and not just any type of category… she wants to win big or she’d kill herself.

Folklore was a great album, but was it deserving of album of the year in 2021? No… no one outside of her fanbase can recall a single song on that album. It had no pop culture impact and it was only big since most huge forces in music were not releasing during that time of the pandemic.

Taylor is also the only female artist to win album of the year… three times.

Usually, the Academy likes to remain diverse with their wins and no I’m talking about race since Jon Baptiste, who won album of the year last night, was the first black artist to do so since 2008. Clearly, there’s still quite a problem, but for the most part, they don’t want to give the same BIG award to the same person each year.

They like a little bit of a challenge, something to mix it up.

Other people to win album of the year that many times are Frank Sinatra (1959 and 1966-67), Stevie Wonder (1974-75 and 1977) and Paul Simon (1971, 1976 and 1987)… aka mad long ago.

But when you got someone like Taylor who ass kisses on a different level behind the scenes, you’d rather just give her the award so you can save your family the harassment and be able to feed your kids.

Back to Justin…

It’s one thing to ass kiss… it’s another to sh!t on something.

He famously called out the Grammys in 2020 for nominating him in a pop category when he wanted to be recognized for R&B and he called out award shows in general in 2016.

Artists such as The Weeknd and Zayn have complained about this as well.

Justin has stopped caring about connections in the industry a longgggg time ago. He doesn’t care. He won’t send gift baskets, he won’t say something nice for the sake of it. He’s been on this high of being “raw” “vulnerable” “authentic” which is nice and all, but like I’ve always said… it’s a shark industry.

There’s a lot that goes into the Grammys and awards that are picked through an academy. Biases do exist and there are a bunch of reasons why certain artists win over others.

For example, Olivia Rodrigo racking up three huge awards in her debut career? She’s made quite the connections.

Justin was also super nervous to be at the Grammys and to even attend. He told everyone to pray for him on Instagram.

Variety even reports that he looked very overwhelmed following his performance and he was seen crying backstage.

Thoughts?

Anyways, that’s all for this post.

Don’t irritate everyone in the comment section with your think pieces about Jailey that time after time has continuously been proven wrong. Actually… I don’t even know why I said time after time considering your theories don’t withstand the test of time. Y’all will cry about a divorce and how Hailey is sick of Justin and won’t be at the Grammys only for you to be disproved like 15 hours later.

Other than that, I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Let me know what you think!
