NEW COMMENTING PLATFORM... yes or no? Let's chat

The comment section is one of the main highlights of this blog. It has brought together a crazy community, like one big hilarious family.

But if you are an avid reader, you know we’ve run into a lot of issues managing the comments mainly because Squarespace (our hosting platform) doesn’t give you that many options for moderating the comments. It forced us to get reaaaal creative (hello Reader’s Hub), so I come today to discuss with all of you…

There is a commenting platform called Disqus that we will probably implement. Here are the changes that will happen with Disqus:

  • all previous comment sections will get replaced by Disqus meaning all original comments will get deleted as they are replaced with this new system

  • you can still comment anonymously unless we take that feature off

  • you will have to create a Disqus account (I think, I’m not sure)

  • you will get more features & freedom in the comment section (yeah… bc u guys need more freedom right lol)

    • meaning you can choose an icon, you can like/dislike a comment, you can reply with pics or gifs, etc.,

What if we hate it?

If you hate Disqus, I’ll uninstall it and bring back the old commenting platform that we know and love (or hate).

Disqus comes with ads, so I’m gonna test it out and if I see that you guys like it and we like it, I’ll pay for it so you guys can get the best reader experience.

I will be installing Disqus soon, but please give me your thoughts and insight in the comment section below. I want to make this decision before the December schedule.

Keep in mind that it will take some adjustment as with any commenting platform… when we first moved from Tumblr to Squarespace, we would get like 30 comments on a post for a while as people transitioned to the new hosting platform. I am expecting a decline in comments as something new goes up so just chill at first and try to work around it.

And uh… yeah, let’s see where this goes.
