After all the engagement rumors and hot and heavy press appearances... Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello Still Broke Up! Here's The Tea
Ah, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello… one of my favorite topics to talk about ever since they famously got together in the summer of 2019. As of November 17, 2021, they have officially broken up.
The two released a joint statement on Instagram that probably took an intern about 15 seconds to write.
Shawmila stans were rightfully confused as the breakup news came in the midst of all their high profile appearances, candids, and loved up Instagram shots. Shawn’s last Instagram post was literally the 2 of them on Halloween, a few weeks ago.
If anything, fans expected news of an engagement and some even believed that Camila was pregnant.
Those 2 topics were heavy themes on social media and were even supported by anonymous tips sent to Deuxmoi. Earlier this year, Deuxmoi published a tip saying that the 2 were engaged. There didn’t seem to be any trouble in paradise for Shawn and Camila so everyone believed that any breaking news from the duo would be something about taking their relationship to the NEXT LEVEL.
But alas, here on esmg and with our trustworthy readers, we all discussed when a breakup would happen. I believe I told some of the commentators that we feel that it’s going to be a late 2021/early 2022 breakup followed by a breakup album.
The reason? Shawn and Camila have always been nothing, but a business deal. They are good friends and they are very close which is why I don’t see this breakup going south and them turning on each other.
Their breakup announcement paints them as exes that will remain friends. The last thing anyone wants is negative press, but either way, any press is better than no press.
Ever since 2020, I told you all what my sources told me—their teams are looking for the best way for them to break up and maximize the results.
In my quarantine zombies post, I said that a breakup was being heavily discussed at that moment. Later that summer, there was news that they did break up, BUT the news wasn’t confirmed by mainstream media outlets. Instead, it was teased to smaller outlets such as J-14 and InTouch Weekly.
Their relationship was only confirmed to be going strong and steady after Shawn released his song, Wonder.
Similar to the breakup, engagement news was also teased to smaller outlets such as Deuxmoi and Hollywire.
After every tease of information, Shawn and Camila would pop up again looking more in love than ever.
This is what I would like to a call a slow-burn-ending for Shawn & Camila. We constantly got a crumb of something and then it was ripped away and we were told “don’t believe the rumors, we are still in love.”
In the past couple of months, Shawn and Camila’s relationship genuinely looked like they were the definition of young love.

And of course who can forget the September 2021 Met Gala appearance where they both walked together?

Usually, when a couple does a Met Gala appearance, it’s a big deal for the relationship, but I guess this is what I can call the Shawn curse? First, he walked with Hailey Baldwin in 2018 only for her to get engaged to Justin Bieber shortly after. And now, he walked with Camila only to break up 2 months later.
They had also dressed up for Halloween together.
And their last public appearance was on November 3 where they couldn’t help but share a PDA-packed beach day, which is custom in the Shawmila rule book.

And exactly 2 weeks later… they announce that they are broken up even though everything seemed peachy!
As my tongue has grown dry with every time I tell you guys the same thing—these 2 are calculated to the max.
I have documented every single inch of their relationship, including all the discrepancies, since the start. They are my modern-day Jelena <3
What to expect now:
With every breakup comes a breakup era.
We see it with Adele right now. We see it with Taylor Swift who can magically make an era about a breakup from ten years ago. We’ve seen it with Selena Gomez. We’ve seen it with everyone because nobody loves pain and heartbreak the way fanbases do. They like to bask in the glory of their faves’ pain while sending their ex hate.
However, I don’t see a nasty breakup happening with Shawn & Camila. I see a calculated one.
So if Camila is gonna be shading Shawn, it’s going to be planned. If Shawn is going to be crying about Camila, it’s going to be planned.
Shawn and Camila being loved up in 2020 and 2021, didn’t intrigue people about them because it was a stable narrative. Hollywood loves a mess which is why Jelena was so iconic and Selena was able to get like 4 breakup eras surrounding one relationship.
When something is stable, it becomes boring and there isn’t that intrigue that comes with it. We see this in Justin and Hailey Bieber’s marriage.
So a breakup was inevitable for Shawn and Camila because it opens up a new path.
My source told me that there were different plans for them to break up all throughout 2021, but since they were gonna go down, they wanted to go out with a bang.
This is why they waited until the Met Gala, until Halloween, until Camila’s movie premiere and they basically wanted to get all last photo ops in before the big showdown.
I’m not saying Shawmila won’t pull a Jelena and get back together every 3-4 months for 2 days and a quick Instagram shot, but this breakup opens them to a new direction in their careers.
Both their recent albums had flopped and they need something different. A change in direction.
This is something I’ve been screaming about for the last year and now we’re about to see it go down.
I really hope they don’t bore me.
